How To Handstand!

Calling all handstand geeks! Whether you are a first time flyer or an acrobatic pro, this is a great chance to explore the finer points of going upside down.

Time to get your handstand-game-face ON. This is handstanding 101 from circus artist Gabrielle Parker and even though we are starting from the basics, the basics will make you sweat! This workshop will be focusing on deconstructing the acrobatic handstand into delicious bite-size building blocks from which you can, with enough hard grind, construct your perfect inversion practice.

These bite-size building blocks are broken down into an introduction of the ‘7 pillars’ – Specific Strength – Alignment – Endurance – Consistency – Shape – Balance – Mobility.

We’ll be covering the basic anatomy of handstand including:

• Hand placement, body checklists, and shoulder positioning.

• Understanding pre-habilitation and stabilisation.

• Achievement of efficient balance through a straight line handstand.

• Specific conditioning and flexibility exercises relating to hand balance.

• Consistent muscle memory training.

Acro Balance: Frills and thrills without all the drills.

An introduction to partner acrobatics and balances. Perfect for integrating into your pole practice, floor choreography, for routines or just for fun!

Gabby will be guiding you through building a good foundation and technique for duo acro work. Lots of play, trust games and learning to spot and catch. We will be covering a series of accessible tricks that you can do with the same size partner or group.

Flexibility: GET THE STRETCH: Performance Flexibility

In this mini workshop Gabby will be helping you locate limitations within in your body so that you are able to learn to address and isolate those areas of stiffness, immobility or dysfunction.

  • A look at ways to increase your range of motion using flex techniques such as Active, PIR and PNF / MET
  • Stabilisation, strength and control gains
  • Juicy partner work

All levels welcome, All exercises and stretches will be tailored to your relative ability and individual needs.
